Well the summer is almost over and now what? The thoughts of do I blog? Do I not blog? The fact is that I have missed blogging. I could spend hours reading all of the wonderful blogs. So much to learn, so little time.

Well, here I am! I am baaaaackkkk! With a new perspective and lot of new plans and goals.

Nothing really exciting happened this summer. I just was kept busy with 3 Esty store and doing freelance graphic work. Mom and Dad are part of my life and working with them and helping always brings a joy to my heart.

No big splashed today for my blog I just wanted to jump back into the water....I will go for a swim tomorrow.

Keeping my son's memory alive

Most of you reading do not understand me and I am so thankful that you don't. Never would I wish losing a child on anyone, it is the worst broken heart ever.

Going back to April 15, 2005. One of the brightest days of our lives (my son and I). Finally after years of living in apartments, I was able to buy my first home. I did it as a single Mom. Proud and so excited.

The house was move in ready and was such a darling home, but you know you have to do things that make it yours.

Excitement was in the air.

June 8, 2005 the phone rings at 12:24 AM that my son, my only child had been in a car accident. So many emotions and thoughts rambling in my head as I called a friend to take me to the hospital, one block away.

What seemed like hours the doctor finally came it to tell me about his injuries and I abruptly stopped him, "I want to know how he is now and when can I see him?" the doctor, "Well. he's dead."

The next thing I knew they were lifting me up from the floor as I am screaming, mourning and falling so fast into a black hole with no way out.

Five years later I am still in that black hole. Desparately wanting to grasp onto something that will make all of this go away. Nothing is there....

My heart aches daily, it is so broken, but yet I must keep going. My "abnormal" normal life is so different than before. I am in a strange world with strange things all around me.

A Flea Market Weekend A really Good time

Our weekend was spent at a Flea Market which of course is a perfect place for me to be. We set up a booth with just 2 tables but lots of goodies for everyone.

Mike kept reminding me that we were there to sell not buy. You know some people take the fun out of everything. I did have to draw from my inner strength to resist not buying more than we took. How do you know when you have enough? Is there such a thing? Nah...

The people you meet come from all walks of life. You have those, bless their hearts that have to come there to buy what they need. Then there are the "nosies" that walk with their hands behind their back just looking to see what everyone has. OK lots of "how much can I get them to come down on their price" people. So cute to see their face when you agree. It is a win win situation.

Last there is me. Trying not to drool on everything as I gander about. I know exactly what I want. I just have to see it! I pick something up, look it over then think, "Oh this is so neat, I could do this or that." Then comes this annoying nudge....as I hear Mike say, "We came to sell not buy." What does he know. I hear, "Where will we put that?" So in my mind I am rearranging my house in my weak mind to know that it will fit somewhere. If I take a deep breath or do the old Lamaze breathing I can get through it.

Once back to our booth my mind is only the "treasure" I passed up. Before you know it, I am paying for it!

Oh well no harm done. It was a soggy weekend here and so we were in the perfect place to enjoy.

So now you all know I am really insane! But I love it!

Aging Parents The Hearbreak of it all

Maybe I can write this without crying or maybe not. This is one subject I never wanted to think about. I just can't imagine all of it. Yes I tend to hide my head in the sand. It just gets me through.

First off I love my parents so much, they are who made me and taught me all I know. I am so close to them and since my brother died in Vietnam in 1968, I am all that they have. Then my son Dustin died in 2005 and really I am it.

At times I don't feel like I do enough for them. Everday I talked to them a million times on the phone, go to their house to do the little things that they can no longer do....and do the errands, pay bills, take to doctor, etc.. I still feel guilty for not doing enough. If I don't do it for them then who will.

Luckily they both are alert, very much so. Their health is good it is just that they are aging. Dad is 85 and Mom is 80. Dad needs attention because 1) he's spoiled 2) he is frail. Mom needs rest and doesn't get it as often as she should. It breaks my heart as Mom watches the love of her life, the strong farmer, the man of the house....slip.

Life gets in the way at times preventing me from being there all the time. Yes I feel guilty because they were always there for me no matter what. Do any of you have suggestions on how to handle these emotions?

I am their baby girl and they are my heroes.

Really lovin' Vintage Today and Everyday

I never knew where my love for Vintage would take me to where I am. Back when it wasn't cool I was always facinated with the old things. Can't help but to wonder where had it been before, what was its use, did someone adore this. Wishing that each piece could talk because I want to know: I am curious that way.

After reading an article that stated vintage was a part of being eco-friendly a way to help the earth stay green I really got excited. Why is it that it takes us "older" generation a long time to see what we can do to be green.

Like a kid in the candy shop when I see Trash to Treasrue I am mesmerized, I just drool when I pass a trash pile....Auctions, gararge sales....be still my heart. It's difficult to describe the feeling that comes over me. That is how I know that I LOVE vintage, trash to treasures and recycled items. How cool is that?

Dad's Tool Shed and Friday Follow

Yesterday was spent clearing out my Dad's "tool" shed. He is 85 and wants to know what all he has in there and for me to take what I want. Not being a real fan of farm tools I reluctantly agreed. Really I had no choice 1) I love him 2) I am an only child 3) can't say no to Dad.

You have to know that this shed has not been touched in about 5 years. When my son Dusty was alive he would drool as he entered the shed but nobody has been in there since.

As I entered the first thing I saw was an old bottle, be still my heart I have always had a love for old bottles. Then I saw a vintage oil can, then a key chain and at that instant I was so excited. I was a cleaning fool since I couldn't wait to see what else I would discover.

As I was sitting for a break just looking into the shed I pondered and remembered so many things from that tool shed. It was as though I was turning the pages of my mind, wiping dust off memories.

My Dad was a farmer his whole life. This was a part of who he was. His tools were at the center of his life. My eyes filled with tears as I remembered seeing him grab a tool to fix my bike, work on a tractor, tune my car, build a fence with each task he would just smile.

It had to be difficult for him to tell me to clear out his shed a part of him. By the time we (of course Mike helped me) were done our truck was full. Treasures of a hard working man, a loving father and devoted husband. I can't imagine letting someone clear my basement....I would hyper ventilate.

My journey yesterday took various different paths. All is good and all is well.

Not to be sappy or gushy but lately I have been so thankful for my Blog Followers, my Facebook friends and all of my friends in my life.

Before my son, Dustin died in 2005, I was a social butterfly, the friend who carried the burdens of my friends. Suddenly all of that changed and I needed someone to help me. It was difficult but soon realized that the friends that actually stayed with me after his death were true friends. Believe it some of the "friends" I had left me. rarely heard from, I am talking friends for 20-25 years.

Today I want you to know that I am thankful when you visit my blog, when you write....not sure thankful is a good word but all of you are very much appreciated! You just have no idea what it means to me.

What do you do to be "Green" eco-friendly?

If I had only known as a child I needed to recycle....what a difference that would have made. I think they were Hippies! It didn't really hit me until later years that being earth friendly was important.

When we had our own garden the last couple of years we used rain water to keep the garden watered, I was so excited with this!

Of course I do more than just that but that was my big project and was warm and fuzzy every time we watered! The vegis loved it too.

What do you do to be "green'? Big or small each part helps. Share if you please.

This week has just flown right by! I was so busy from working in my shops, siding my parents addition, cleaning, soap making.....whew finally a day to relax!

Mish Mash Monday- Let's Talk Flowers

Oh my dream to have this!

I am for sure not the only one who thinks that the first hint of nice weather my mind gears towards flowers, what kind can I get this year?

A few years ago I planted so many Perennials so I wouldn't have to plant every year. Yet what do I do? Search for more! Is there a time when you say ENOUGH? I am not sure....

I have Lavender, Sage, Oregano, Chocolate Mint for herbs, the Sedum, Lillies, Alyssum, Salvia, Hostas and so many more that I forget the names.

What do you have in your garden?

A new day dawns with a big list of all that needs done. Somehow there is just not enough hours in a day to get it completed. At times this may bring frustration and oh no that's not good for us.

I know I never really relax. My mind is always on the go with all the things that need done, new ideas, and the little stuff that was ignored.

During the winter months relaxing was watching some TV then going to bed. Nope that just didn't do it. I need to relax for 10 minutes at least during the day.....but I don't....go here, do this, always more to do.

What do you do to relax? How do you just let go? The powers that be say we need totally relaxation several times a day. Please share!

Flea Market Weekend

Our first time ever to set up at a Flea Market. We learned alot, had fun and I could have spent more than we made! I had to use some restraint. You know the feeling, you see a table with all the things you love on it and you start to drool, hoping nobody notices? Well, that was me. My creative juices were in overdrive thinking of all the possibilities. Junk Treasures were everywhere, I was surrounded and at one point cornered! Stopping to take some deep breaths, then breathing like I was in labor. My senses were about to explode when my cell phone rang. It was Mike, I had left him at our table and people were asking questions that only I knew the answers. Slowly I backed away, holding my breath at this point, I turned to walk toward our booth as it came into my sight, Mike standing there looking at me as though I had been gone for hours, it was only one hour, he stated, " I was about to send a search and rescue." It was then I realized my trip to the bathroom was a little long, however the beautiful Junk Treasures my eyes and heart came into contact with was worth it all.

Until the next time I went to get coffee....I think you know the rest of the story!

Ramblings on a sunny morning

Seems like it has been forever since I blogged and I missed it so much. Sometimes Life just has us doing other things.

My days have been filled with so many different missions....whew, I want my "abnormal" normal back.

I know to all of you when you read this will think I am coo-coo! My friends may agree with you...but I love them anyway.

As you know, I lost my only child, my son in a car accident in 2005. When I keep myself busy, I feel like I do not think about Dusty as much. I feel guilty. OK enough...

We setting up at a flea market this weekend and hopefully it will be a success.

It's Sunday morning and the sun is shining through the window as I type, ahhhh so nice.

My Mom called, bless her heart she just turned 80 and is finding that this internet stuff is pretty neat as long as she doesn't have to on it! She has me hoppin all over. Each and every day she has a new idea of something to make, explore and hence I do as she wished.

Today she said it is so sad that she didn't have all of this years ago when she was really into making crafts, upolstering furniture, redoing antiques, baking, cooking...and the list goes on. Unfortunately I didn't get these genes of hers. BUT I am a really good gopher!

Today I would like to share some of her Annie dolls with you. At first she just hated making them prim, she thought that was just terrible, but now she enjoys it! lol

warm weather, vintage toy, primitive wall handing

The nice weather we have been having is so good for the soul. Birds are singing so loud, you can here laughter in the neighborhood, work being done in yards and awww the feel of the sun on your skin. Spirits all around seem to be lifted up since the sign of Old Man Winter is not in sight.

Not sure if this weather is staying but while it is here I am going to enjoy it. Have you done anything outside during this warm break? Please share.

Extremely rare vintage toy. Learning puzzle stacked picture blocks with victorian era pictures. ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. They are in great condition considering the age. Very unique toy find.

Primitive Wall Hanging, Picket

It just doesn't get any more primitive than this picket wall hanging. The wooden picket was rescued (almost went to be fire wood!!!) and now it is renewed. Perfect to hang on the wall with 3 Coats & Clark thread spools to hang your pretties on. The Largest spool still has black thread on it. Oh so rpim with natural aged wood.

The vintage primitive wooden picket is extremely rustic, primmed and ready to go in its natural state. I did some sanding for the really rough parts. It is measures 23 1/2" x 2". The wall hanging comes with picture frame hangers on the back.

Rescued, recycled, and shown some love now it is ready for your cozy home.

Vintage Pastel Pink and White Thermoset. Lucite, Moonglow Necklace and Bracelet Set
This vintage necklace in goldtone setting choker necklace and bracelet is an excellent example of the quality costume jewelry from the 1950s. It may be moonglow lucite. Thermoset lucite jewelry was manufactured predominantly in the 1950s-1960s by many costume jewelry companies. It was great for jewelry because the lucite (a heavier plastic) could be molded into many creative shapes and designs.
This exquistie vintage necklace was mine as a child to play dress up with in the early 1960s. They are in great condition, the bracelet is finer than the necklace, with only wear flaws on the necklace. Please see photos.
The vintafe choker necklace measures 16 1/2" 41.9 cm inches in length, the bracelet measures 7" 17.8 cm. This lovely lucite beauty would make an wonderful addition to any collection.

Often times I visit the retro type blogs and love them. After all I lived those times of the 50's and 60's. ok, well at times it makes me feel so old......BUT it also takes me on a journey to my childhood, oh so sweet.

Today I want to share some of the fashion or lack there of from my life. You need to remember we were farmers in rural Ohio. Enjoy!

When did you start your craft/collection/hobby (whichever applies)?
Designing my own pieces started when I was young. I always lived in outskirted towns where the shopping was minimal. As a yound woman I wanted to be as stylish as all the trends I saw in magazines so I found my creative side and started handcrafting my own pieces. The greatest part about designing my own jewelry is finding vintage pieces, deconstructing them and designing them in to something more fabulous than what they started as. The hardest part about desiging my own jewelry is resisting the urge to keep one of each piece for myself!

Will 2010 bring anything new for you, your shop or your blog?
You'll see more pieces designed with vintage up-cycles. In 2009 I designed a lot of beach inspired looks and while you'll still see plenty of that in 2010 I want to bring more of the vintage chic beach look to women! I'm just learning the art of blogging so hopefully that will bring amazing things and get the word out about WhimSea Designs as well.

Resting and relaxing, what do you do to have fun and enjoy life?
Family is number one, first and foremost! When it comes to relaxing I love driving down to the beach, digging my toes in the sand and feeling the warm sun on my face! Whether I'm with family or just by myself it truly is a slice of heaven. When it comes to having fun in life...many will be suprised to know I'm a "Daddy's Girl" at heart...I love the outdoors. Camping, fishing and getting dirty 4-wheeling are the highlights of a great weekend!

What do you consider to be your treasure? (anything from childhood to your shop) eg baby doll, a special rock, etc
My treasure in life isn't anything materialistic. It's the love of my family and the amazing husband God has blessed me with! Nothing on earth could ever compare or take their place!!

Day Lilies shake off the winter blues

This past July we went to visit friends in Upstate New York near Vermont. Aww such a beautiful part of our country. While there we went to a day lily farm. It took my breath away. Birds and snow

I need to make something clear, ahem...I wanted a big snow...ok we got it now I am done. I didn't ask for days of snow....

When I am on my computer I can look out my window at our bird feeders. Now understand that I am so afraid of birds BUT I enjoy watching them after all I am safe in the house. Anyway we have lots of cardinals that visit and even make their nests in our bushes. They are so beautiful. We try to keep food out for them. Suddenly the black birds have found the new feeding spot. OMG they are relentless in eating all of the food up.

Picture this, I am on the computer working away and out of the corner of my eye I see a black bird run the cardinals off. I tap on the window and they fly away for about 3 seconds then they are back.....grrrrrrrr

So I thought I needed to go outside myself to shew the black birds away. This worked only briefly. While out I took some photos of the cardinals waiting on the black bird to leave and finally one cardinal braved it and starting eating with him.

That is my story today....birds and snow.

Sundays are sure different now than there were when I was a child. After the hustle and bustle of the week Sundays truly meant a time of rest and relaxation.

Up bright and early for church, home for a big Sunday dinner....then it was nap time for everyone in the house. Once awake we just had family time. It was just a warm and gentle day.

As an adult I really don't have a routine for Sunday. When I was working I spent most of it dreading for Monday to come and be off to the crazy week ahead. Nothing in paticular happens on Sundays anymore....it is just another day.

Going retro for a day is reliving my childhood

Some of the things that are so retro now was just normal for me but that is part of being old and refined I suppose! Events that I remember are still so vivid.

It gives me the awww feeling to see interests in the good ol' days.

Tips and Tutorial Tuesday - Liquid Starch

It is not often that you may need liquid starch. I never have until.....I was crafting and it called for liquid starch. Somehow I had missed that before I started. What now? No liquid starch in the house.

Grandma Shirl - Mom

Luckily I could pick up my phone and call my Mom who has the recipe for anything you want. Here it is and it dries clear also.

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1T cornstarch
Directions:
bring water to boil
in a cup mix cornstarch with a little water, enough to get it mixed
once water is boiling add cornstarch a little at a time until desired thickness

Now the thickness should be thicker than syrup but thinner than gravy! lol this is what Mom told me so I am passing that along to you as well.

There you have liquid starch. Mom said they used this all the time on clothes, etc where starch was needed.

My first Challenge

So I belong to a Team, The Primitive Peddler that was having a Challenge. Silly me signed up to be a part of it! Well....after I did this I thought to myself how foolish...then I thought "Let's have fun!"

This has made go beyond my comfortable boundries and try something new. We never learn if we don't try something new. I don't expect to win, I just wanted to be a part of it. I had fun! Pattern and inspiration by Kentucky Primitives.

Reclaimed Beauty

As I sit drinking my coffee and looking out my window as I am typing...I see the beauty of snow everywhere. Children are sledding, throwing snowballs, dogs running freely....ahhh the good ol'days when life was simple. Oh to be a child again and see the world through their eyes.

Aniticpating the snow made the markets an event like Black Friday, pushing, lines, angry people. Complaining about everything that wasn't a fault to any of us. When I said, "I want the snow!" I could feel the eyes piercing my every being, with a smile I moved along.

Constant updates to make sure my parents were ok as even though beautiful sometimes the unexpected may happen. All is fine and they are enjoying the snow from the comforts of their living room.

Now my eyes wander back to my window. The children count has increased...so much laughter. My poor birds that visit daily their feeders are covered with snow....we will clear it for them. Then I thought of this birdfeeder I found at my parents home. It was in so much need of love. I snatched it up brought it home and loved it! Now it is new again.

Sometimes we need the vision of a child to reclaim the beauty in everything.

After my son's death, where does inspiration and strength come from

I have pondered writing this. I asked friends for advise as to whether I should or not. There are no coincidences, I went to "A Blonde Walks Into A Blog" and read her gripping article on her brother's suicide. At this time I knew it was time to write about my son's death.

Life was good for me and my son. Surviving domestic violence, going back to college to earn better pay, cleaning up credit and finally buying a house as a single Mom.

Excitement filled the air as we moved into our new home on April 15, 2005. I was so proud that I could finally offer my son, my only child a house for a home, not an apartment anymore.

Plans were big as he was given the basement to fix up with his pool table, furniture, etc to make it his place for friends (that were always at our house) to enjoy with him. We were busy making our new house a home.

June 7, 2005 started out as a really nice day. Lunch at work with friends, making Dusty his favorite meal, baking chocolate chip cookies all was so nice.

Dusty had been fishing that evening with his friends at a friend's pond. They came home, shot some pool, ate dinner. I went to bed early as I always did. Around 10:30 PM Dusty woke me up to say that he was going fishing at a family friend's cabin at a creek. He fished for catfish and that is usually done at night. I said, "OK, love you!" and he replied, "Love you too Mom."

Back to sleep only to awaken at 12:30 AM (June 8th) by the phone. It was a friend (where they were going fishing) and he told me that Dustin had been in a terrible car accident and that they were going to LifeFlight him.

The daze started at this time as I hurried to get some clothes on and then he called back and said they were taking him to the local hospital after all. Somewhat relieved as his injuries must not be as bad as they thought. I called a friend to take me 1 block to the hospital because there was no way I could have driven.

Once at the hospital I had to register him. The nurse took me to the back in a quiet little room. The doctor came in telling me about his injuries, etc. I abruptly stopped him with my hands in the air, "I just want to know how he is and when can I see him?" the doctor then said to me, "Well he's dead!"

I fell to the floor, screaming, crying and being sucked into a blackhole so fast I didn't know what was going on or where I was going.

My baby boy was gone. For 17 years I was a Mom and had a thriving, active teen in my life....then everything came to a hault. My life changed that day forever as part of me went with Dustin.

To the present, my heart aches so much daily, I think of him almost every second of the day, I cry, I feel sick BUT I still have to live. I live with this each and every day. I wake up thinking about Dusty and go to bed thinking about him.

So many of you have asked me how do I do it. Where does your strength and inspiration come from?

First and foremost my strength comes from God. Without Him I never could have made it one day.

The entire first year Dustin's friends never left my side. They inspired me to keep going, they gave me strength.

My brother was killed in Vietnam in 1968. My Mother was my rock as she knew the pain, she knew the journey that laid ahead of me.

My friends never left my side for a moment. They are the best!

Early on I made a website for Dusty. http://dustin-davis.memory-of.com/About.aspx Through this site I have emailed and actually met others that have lost their child. Then I started helping with an online grief support group http://www.preciousmemorials.com/ and from there I have arranged "Get Togethers" where we all come together from all over the US for a weekend. I have some wonderful friends from there and we talk, visit as often as we can. The Online support group has the most wonderful team of management, they are truly there no matter what. Strength and inspiration.

Etsy....yes Etsy. I have talked to so many wonderful Estians and so many wonderful Bloggers that have been supportive in so many ways. I have been inspired and given strength by so many cannot count them all. So much kindness exists I am at awe.

Keeping busy, helping others, all part of my inspiration and strength.

Living each day as I never know what will inspire me today or give me strength but I look for it in everything I do. You are all part of my strength and inspiration. So I want you to know how much I appreciate each and everyone of you...I really do. I am humbled and honored by you.

Easy and Yummy Fried Chicken Pot Pie

For about a month now I have been craving this chicken pot pie. It is easy and oh so delicious. This is a quick dinner for busy craftors!

Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients
2 breasts (or dark meat) from your favorite store's deli already fried
1 bag of frozen mixed vegetables
1 can of Cream of Chicken soup
1 pie crust roll (you need two pastries)

Directions
Place pie shell in bottom
Tear chicken into pieces
Mix soup, vegetables and chicken together
Add to pie shell
Place top crust on

Bake 350 for about an hour
I precook the vegis for about 5 minutes to get them cooked properly

Remove and enjoy!

Am I the only one that rushes through each day usually forgetting to "stop and smell the roses?"

There was as time when I appreciated the sunset and would lay on the grass to watch clouds float by or to watch the stars twinkle. Excitement filled the air when snow came or a chance to run in the rain or to splash in a puddle.

Maybe we are too old for this but I think as a child we had it right. Enjoying the simple things can sometimes bring us more pleasure than an expensive get away.

Starting today I am going to relish in the small stuff to bring me that awww feeling.

Good friends and Mom's home town

It is funny how things work in our lives isn't it? Each day brings a new adventure either to toil through or enjoy.

Recently my friend Lisa lost her Mother. We made a trip to Tennessee to be with her during this difficult time. You see Lisa like me has also lost a child, her daughter Holly. http://hollyrproffitt.memory-of.com/About.aspx This is our main common bond. Through the years we have bonded as close friends, I love her to pieces. A tragedy brought us together but we nuture it with day to day living. Friends come from all places from all different times.

While traveling through Kentucky to get home from Tennessee I just had to visit my Mom's home town, Louisa, Kentucky. As we drove through the town I suddenly realized my roots, my upbringing. This was so rewarding for me and a renewal of strength.

As you can see one incident in your life can cause a reaction of many sorts. Enjoy each adventure life brings to you.

Sunday morning a time to relect and get it going!

Drinking coffee and watching the birds out the window beside my computer....the house is quiet, Princess Molly is happy (for now) and all is good.

When I was young Sundays meant going to church, coming home to a huge Sunday dinner and then everyone in the house took a nap. When awake again we talked about the week before and the one ahead. It was a time to reflect, share and get ideas for the coming week. That was the good ol' days.

Now just a few years later we have our own rituals and patterns. Nothing at all like I was raised with. At times I miss those days when it seemed like everything was rosey and full of promise.

Awww this coffee is so good think I will have another cup....

The Light came on!!

My last wish is to bore you to bits....but I used to be full of inspiration, ideas and thoughts. When my son died in 2005 I felt all of that life went out the window.

Lately I have struggled to be creative once more...this morning I woke up INSPIRED! I feel so awesome!! I have been talking to some awesome Estians and they have inspired me to try....

Of course I have been accused of "lights on but nobody home!" lol

The morning has been so relaxing as a Sunday morning should be. The cardinals are eating as I watch them out my window, the coffee was perfect and now I must take the step.

Finding a niche

As I stroll around visiting all of the wonderful sites of Etsy and other crafters and all of the primitive beauties, awesome jewlery, creative mediums I am just in awe....

I love to craft and collect vintage items....but I don't know what my niche is yet. It is terrible to have a store and still not know. I can almost grab onto it as I know it is close...make sense? My love is for a variety of things not one set thing; so knowing is a bit more difficult. The tip is to do what you love most and enjoy making...again so many choices.

The chili is cookin...mmmmm

As I finally get to work in my new studio Mike has put his yummy chili on. Here I sit trying to craft and all I can smell is chili...mmmm. The snow is gently falling as I look out the window. What a wonderful day. I really appreciate life today.

Since I haven't found my "niche" yet I am working on a few things to offer, hopefully something will take off. I really need to learn to sew and pray for patience. Frustration kicks in and I give up. I need a simple project to work on. Any suggestions from you pros?

Paint, gesso and wood putty is drying seems like it has taken forever. I think I will have a bowl of chili....

My studio.workspace is complete

What seemed to be a work in progress forever is finally finished. It is nothing fancy, BUT it is my space, my zen, my zone. Mike built me 3 huge shelves 8 feet wide and about 6-7 feet high AND they are all full. Lots of room to store all of my goodies. Later we will redo the floor but it is going to be costly so for now it will have to do. Below are before and after pics. I am so excited! I now have "stations." Design, painting, packaging, and storage.

Glue Gun, Organization, Secrets, Promos and so much more

Easy project to do....make a photo box...well let me tell you it turned into an adventure!

It prompted me to this post. The amazing glue gun! Are there secrets to not getting the strings of glue in hair, under nails and every place else it can go? Am I just a slob with it? Need a better gun? Please help me so every time I get the glue gun I am not whispering such horrible things under my breath.

How do you start your day? I have been reading the tips to have a better business...well when will I ever craft? What are your secrets to an organized day? Coffee then create? Later in the day? How do you find time to fit all that is needed in?

I am just sure somewhere there is a hidden camera watching me as I try with all of my might to be an at home business person...ahem...The joke is on me. Maybe the routine of a 5 AM alarm, 1 hour of travel, then to my office is just hard to break.

OK you have a secret that nobody knows simple because they haven't asked. I am asking! Share with the world how you make it all work. Don't be shy, you will be admired by many for sharing!

Magic Wand Anyone?

I know it sounds crazy to a lot of you but I love football. So happy the Ohio State Buckeyes won the Rose Bowl! Yippee!

Now that I can relish in the idea of winning and feel the warmth...ahhhhh

Doing more painting today on the studio....sure hope it gets done really fast! Does anyone have a magic wand to wave and this would be complete? onward I go!

My new studio

2010 will bring me to my new revamped studio. Since we started the project everything that I can create and craft with is in boxes.....somewhere. I can't wait to get it all together and organized. I am itching to make something that I have been thinking about for a while. the anticipation is killing me!

We have part of the studio painted, the work area is almost finished, one more shelf need assembled THEN the organization begins. Everything to do with Etsy will be there. I have set up a photo station, packaging, office and craft. Now to get it going. When all finished I will show before and after pics....OMG you will not believe the mess it is right now.

Onward with 2010! Today is football bowls games and a day or rest and relaxation. Look out tomorrow, BAM it is on!

A time for everything

Today I have dreaded for a day or so. You see Mike's sister was going through a tough time. We took her little dog, Pebbles so she could have a break. Well being the animal lover that I am....I fell in love with her. She is the sweetest thing. She instantly became a part of our little family. Princess Molly (our baby Shepard/Chow) didn't mind her so all was good. Pebbles is a Jack Russell and soooo lovable. She's a lush for petting. My parents fell in love with her too.

The time has come and his sister is coming after her today. I have some errands to run so hopefully I won't be here when she leaves. Am I terrible? The thought brings tears to my eyes. I would keep her forever.

All good things must come to an end....now she must go.

Aging Parents

I have been an only child since my brother was killed in Vietnam in 1968. Spoiled rotten, the limelight always. My childhood was so awesome.

In 2005 my only child, my son, Dusty was killed in a car accident. He was my paretns only grandchild. Spoiled rotten, the limelight always.

The past few years has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me and those around me. Now my parents are aging fast. Dad doesn't feel good at 84, he will be 85 in January. Mom is 79 and a rock but even rocks wear with time.

The table has been turned. I am now the leader. They are such precious, wonderful people. I love them so very much. The emotions though are difficult to deal with. Being an ostrich sounds great or a bear and hybernate for the winter....maybe things will get better and pass.

Our journey in life brings us to so many stops. Learning how to cope and still have my own life is front and center again. Hopefully the 2010 will bring me new strengths, power and knowledge.

Haven't thought much about what I am going to do or not do for 2010. Hard to imagine that year is actually here...ahem my age is showing!

anyway....my main focus will be on my Etsy, blog and Facebook, getting my act together learning all I can to help myself. Oh yes then the usual, lose weight, quit smoking....exercise more...

Why don't we keep our resolutions? Am I the only one that never does? Am I traveling on this journey of procrastination alone? Please help me here let me know you are just as bad!

The Etsy community is amazing and so supportive! My favorite part of being an Etsian is the reward of designing my own jewelry and accessories for women that love staying fashion forward without breaking their budget.

When did you start your craft/collection/hobby (whichever applies)?

Designing my own pieces started when I was young. I always lived in outskirted towns where the shopping was minimal. As a yound woman I wanted to be as stylish as all the trends I saw in magazines so I found my creative side and started handcrafting my own pieces. The greatest part about designing my own jewelry is finding vintage pieces, deconstructing them and designing them in to something more fabulous than what they started as. The hardest part about desiging my own jewelry is resisting the urge to keep one of each piece for myself!

Will 2010 bring anything new for you, your shop or your blog?

You'll see more pieces designed with vintage up-cycles. In 2009 I designed a lot of beach inspired looks and while you'll still see plenty of that in 2010 I want to bring more of the vintage chic beach look to women! I'm just learning the art of blogging so hopefully that will bring amazing things and get the word out about WhimSea Designs as well.

Facebook has been one of my greatest marketing and advertising tools. I've been so blessed to be able to connect with women everywhere. I gift box and wrap each jewelry piece I send out because I believe presentation is everything. Whether you've gifted yourself or someone else it's always exciting to recieve a beautifully wrapped gift!

Family is number one, first and foremost! When it comes to relaxing I love driving down to the beach, digging my toes in the sand and feeling the warm sun on my face! Whether I'm with family or just by myself it truly is a slice of heaven. When it comes to having fun in life...many will be suprised to know I'm a "Daddy's Girl" at heart...I love the outdoors. Camping, fishing and getting dirty 4-wheeling are the highlights of a great weekend!

My treasure in life isn't anything materialistic. It's the love of my family and the amazing husband God has blessed me with! Nothing on earth could ever compare or take their place!!
